Why I do not trust my own eyes (Score: 1) by chipotle_pickle on Saturday, January 11, 2003 @ 18:30:59 UTC (User Info | Send a Message) http://freehydrogen.blogspot.com | I saw Penn and Teller shoot each other with guns. A lot of people saw it. They had audience members mark bullets, which they places in firing chambers of revolvers. They aimed their guns using lazer scopes, pointed them right in each others mouths. They shot each other at the same time on count. Then they each pulled the bullets out of their teeth. They were the marked bullets. I have seen this replayed on HBO about a half dozen times.
Do I believe that P&T can catch bullets in their mouths? No. Though I saw it with my own eyes.
Do I have any evidence that they can't catch bullets in their mouths, any signs of cheating in their demonstration? No. But a single performance of an experiment under conditions set out by the claimant alone should not be enough to convince anyone of anything as far fetched as that P&T can both catch bullets in their teeth.
What if a major university published a report that P&T can catch bullets? Or Nature? I guess I am just glad that nobody from a major university or Nature has covered P&T. Being a competent scientist does not mean that you have the skills required to unravel a good trick. |

Science Versus Security:
The survival factor, and threat to humanity and sustainability, by a world population not understanding Science, has been ignored.
It never fails to amaze me, how through countless attempts in various formats over the years, there has been consistent failure to organize into a powerful world and national body - recognizing that a "balancing mechanism" has to equal the opposing force (be it inertia or deliberate) - both in the creation and delivery of the Product ............i.e., a center of research, development, and model/prototype showcase open to the public.
Many attempts, similar to a basic outline as this: http://www.relaxspa.net/Sustainable/Proposal.htm
have been tried with nary a connection between Individual & Collective............sufficient to compete with the momentum oil has coalesced.
Through the many decades, continued recognition and acknowledgment of scientific shortcomings and suppression in little isolated bits and pieces continue to seep through the cracks of contemporary "closed" systems theories. with partial attempts by other bright inventor/engineers to create a resultant product.

Bernard Haisch http://www.calphysics.org/research.html : "We scientists tend to think that we know better than anyone else what is possible and what is impossible, and that we of all people could surely not be kept in the dark for very long. Over the course of time I have learned how it would indeed be possible to maintain decades-long secrecy on this topic and why this might be justified, concepts I myself once dismissed."
Santilli “the suppression of the approximate character of quantum mechanics and related basic symmetries in nuclear physics by the academic establishment implies the suppression of new energies, new forms of recycling nuclear wastes, etc constituting ‘damage against society’ a crime, including deception under public funding – a violation of the U.S. Criminal Code of Law.
THE BROOKINGS REPORT: Withholding of certain information from the public is necessary to prevent 'social disintegration'. Today, relinquishing suppression of certain simple, scientific, fundamentals connecting quantum and relativity, threaten governments and multinational corporations more than the general public - an erosion of the power structure.
This questioning of science and security, (article below) did not happen yesterday. It is the outrageously simple stuff that has to be hidden, as Understanding demolishes and glaringly reveals Top Secret archives, and the incredible technological unused capacity we have had for over 60 years.....Namely, 'the radius of curvature of all natural law', thrown in our face by previous civilizations in every part of the world - the yin/yang symbol, mistakenly overemphasized by 'opposites' focus, rather than the 'sine wave' mathematical dimension. http://www.fuel2000.net
Scientists Discuss Balance of Research and Security http://www.nsta.org/sciencenews/&category_ID=283 Jan 10 2003 - The New York Times (Requires free registration)
Scientists and security experts are discussing ways on how to balance the publication of scientific research without it posing a security threat. Scientists claim the best defense against biological weapons is “robust research that is widely accessible.” Security specialists, however, say scientists are “naïve” and “reckless” with that type of approach.

When the Dollar became the God to Corporate Personhood and its shapers, Understanding Science became Top Secret for Security Reasons.
The survival factor, and threat to humanity and sustainability, by a world population not understanding science, has been ignored.
Joke of the Millennium: Our highly vaunted current science & technology spectrum is incapable of delivering goods to the world marketplace - to meet the natural needs and requirements of a world exploding population - or to resolve the simple kindergarten (psych 101) obstacles - which are creating the exponential 60 year rise in world poverty, starvation, deprivation................
As someone once said to me, "No wonder we have not discovered Aliens. They were seeking Intelligent Life."
