The only specific use of relativity theory was to DISPROVE the existence of an aether. If we disallow any mathematics that treat time as a variable rather than physical clocks,(which we must in order to acknowledge reality), then the remainder of all science depends on an aether, whether or not we can sense it properly.
What are the odds that a single theory, written by a bumbling patent clerk, would solve ALL the world's conundrums at the same time? (which it didn't, but was treated as though it did.)
Considering the political behavior of our world, isn't it more likely that this one theory was conveniently going to protect certain interests from coming to light? Amazing how well it has worked, whether it was intentional or not. Can you say, "Distributed Power Blackout, charge more money!"?
The major stumbling block to free energy is that you can't charge vast sums of money for it. Therefore, no investments, no political clout, no way to get interest generated(pun intended) in it until the industrial base has consolidated into a single company, and then they will buy it to cut production costs. By then, the only product will be sports memorabilia sold to the robots built to replace humans as fans, since the fans were too lazy to go to the games anymore, and the robots don't need restrooms. (They buy virtual hot dogs and beer at virtual concession stands on the internet without leaving their seats, and they never go home.)
