To the Community:

Currently I'm 29 years old, with no college degree, but I am a programmer making a good living (over 80k a year in Seattle). Astrophysics, and indeed physics in general was always kept from me because in high school I struggled with math.

My interest in cutting-edge physics and energy science has been a strong interest of mine for pretty much the entirety of my life, but despite my 4.0 GPA's and awards for my writing I received I always felt like I wasn't smart enough to join the community. So I punted and focused my career on computing (obviously the math teachers had me pegged wrong).

Let's say I become indepently wealthy in the next year and can return to college to pursue my real goals (working on a superluminal drive or producing cheap, clean and free energy).

What educational path should I follow? This is not the kind of question a guidance counselor could answer... I would like to know what paths have led you guys to where you are, and what pitfalls to avoid. What disciplines (math) should I master and what science classes will give me the best background for this work?

In college I took all the mathematics I could - calculus, linear algebra, complex analysis. Started in Aero, worked on the synchrotron, and aimed to work in plasmas (Masters). I felt there was an interdisciplinary path needed. My, my, now I am offering electrodynamic solutions of the fundamental quanta. I sensed something ought to be doable here, five years ago, and it was! ALBERSAWA

I think it's always up to who is going to teach you specially if u can choose.

When I grew up and got older I always got this feeling and it got stronger
the older I was and got proved later on I have had the cause of what I was
personally exposed to the circumstances I dealt with and the whole world
struggled with. I mean this hemispheres that let origin the assumption of an
air pressure on the world.

I knew someone had to solve this and also lived with guess all the folks on
the earth would work to get it done. It wasn't true I knew, but it worked out.

Finally, I made it.

The way I went was like being in school for ten years, did lot's of sport that
early time, hit to music school twice a weak from the second year on.

I finished school with -sehr gut- and was asked resp. my mother got called
back I ought to go on attending school.

I but didn't want to join the communism party later on so I had not had any
real chance to do some research on the issue I thought it was worth the
effort. So I decided to get to get skilled as a car mechanic.

Here you have both types of aggregates that are driving today's world.
Combustion engines as well as electric aggregates. This paid of very well.

I skipped a course in transmissions and engine repair and fixing and general
overhaul and did spend more time doing the same to electric generators as
well as starters. This is been amazing. After you had taken them apart and
put together again, and had no clues were the electricity comes from or how
these things start spinning, cause of the missing of the mechanical con-
nection one would assume somewhere, they although did work again.

This is I made and I think its important to the issue. If you want to have a
look at my school reports take a look at them. Remember we have had notes
from 1 to 5 or sehr gut, gut, befriedigend, genĂ¼gend, ungenĂ¼gend, where 1
was best.

Hello!

I translated the report on my diploma as you like.

Steffen is a multi-purpose interested, open minded, intelligent learner who was esteemed and
respected by the class - collective. Steffen has good notion and monitoring capabilities.
Abilities to abstract and logical thought are well developed. His average good benefits he
could further enhance as he would work more determined and not to be satisfied with what he
had accomplished, immediately. Steffen does discuss critically and has got assured arguments.
As a member of the FDJ (Free German Youth) and the DSF (German Soviet Friendship) he
actively took part in the group events, and acquired the 'badge for good knowledge', in silver, in
the FDJ academic year. Stiffens particular interest aims at the music. He attends music
school at the subject 'percussion'. In addition he worked very committed in charge of the
schools club. His ideas enriched the clubs live and encouraged other students. Exemplary, he
took care of the schools PA system.

i am an undergraduate at asu. i am thinking pretty much the same way you are i am wanting to work on ZPE or faster then light travel. i am double majoring in mathematics and physics. i am getting the bs in math to help with my physics career.
after receiving both my bs degrees i would like to go to grad school for theoretical physics.....and possibly get two phds in math and physics....at my school they lay the physics degree down you follow the path...no real choices there...but math i am trying to take math that will help with my physics classes

all three calculus, linear algebra, advanced calculus, differential equations, partial differential equations,.....

Yes, master all these mathematics. They are tools with which I have gone further: http://laps.noaa.gov/albers/physics/na
