On January 3 and 4, NASA science fraud John Mather was feted big time in India. The event was the 97th Indian Science Congress held in Thiruvanthananthapuram in the southern state of Kerala in India.

On Sunday morning, January 3, two American Nobel Laureates, UCSD’s Roger Y. Tsien and NASA’s John Cromwell Mather, received India’s General President Gold Medal from the hands of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh amid great festivities, and cameras blazing. A picture of the PM greeting a beaming Tsien was released. No picture of John Mather with the PM could be found on the Internet.

History does not offer us one other example of a nation bestowing her high honor upon a known science fraud.

In the morning of Monday, January 4, Mather represented the US in the Space Summit. Representatives from France and EU were also present. Mather used this occasion to reaffirm his Nobel Prize (news report):

Dr. Mather shared the Nobel Prize with George F. Smoot of the University of California for their work on the understanding of the Big Bang. Dr. Mather was one of the organisers of the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) satellite of NASA, launched in 1989, to measure the cosmic background radiation of the universe. “This radiation remains the Big Bang itself. We measured the temperature and spectrum of the radiation, extremely precisely, demonstrating that there is no theory to explain [the origin of the universe] other than the Big Bang theory.”

The COBE organisers also measured the hot and cold spots in this Big Bang radiation to understand why it was possible for galaxies to exist. “So we believe that the hot and cold spots we measured are the precursors of the clusters of galaxies that are now observed… These hot and cold spots have evolved over cosmic time to produce the structure of the universe that we now see. These two main measurements we made with the help of the COBE satellite are the basis of our getting the Nobel Prize,” he said.

In the afternoon on Monday, Mather was scheduled to participate in a book-launching ceremony along with Minister Baby. Mather was to “release” two encyclopaedias produced by the State of Kerala: one on astronomy and the other on the Origin of Species. No reports of this are available yet.

John Mather was stated as representing NASA. As of this date, I have not found a single reference to John Mather’s high profile presence in India in NASA web pages that extoll such fetings. So the question is: Has NASA really and truly sent Mather to represent them officially, or is Mather on his own?

Be that as it may, all this high profile activity in the World scene has the effect of slowly re-instituing the fraud and his fraudulent discovery in the eyes of the World. This is helped by the fact that the scientific establishment does not say anything, NASA does not say anything, US Congress does not say anything, the White House does not say anything, and the American Media does not say anything.

President Obama has maintained a very formal distance from NASA thus far. He therefore remains unsullied by the NASA fraud. But news reports have it that the President is about to announce his firm support for NASA. Yet, the Mather matter has not been handled. Does this mean Mather gets away with it, and President Obama embraces the whole package – fraud and all?

When entire nations and heads of state get solidly behind a science fraud, when a Prime Minister shakes hands with and gives a Gold Medal to a known science fraud, what can one do? What can one do?

When a valiant Air Force General – a reportedly honest and honorable man – has the charge of doing something and does not do anything, what can you do? What can you do?

I have no apologies to offer to anyone, but I will say this to the Ninovs and Schons and the Ponses and the Fleischmanns and the Imanishi-Karis and the Hajras: I have tried to make justice even-handed! But in this Age of Fakery, it does not always work.

John Cromwell Mather is not only the most diabolically clever science fraud in history, he is also the most diabolically clever escape artiste.
