In tomorrow-energy yahoo group Ian writes: Speaking of cheap ways to produce hydrogen, check out They manufacture a device called a "Plasma Converter" which transforms any type of waste into hydrogen and recyclable materials with virtually no emissions. A recent study for New York city found that if they processed their 14,000 tons of daily garbage through a Plasma Converter, this would be enough to power about 700,000 cars for 30 miles every day.

The Plasma Converter is net energy positive for most types of waste, including municipal solid waste. Once the system is up and running, no electricity is required from the power grid as some energy is recycled back into the system from the waste. The waste is not burned like an incinerator but undergoes molecular dissasociation.
