    You know, I'm an avid supporter of ZPE and it's future uses...but when it comes to cars, I'm thinking we could do a lot to improve gas mileage now...here's an idea and I would appreciate someone smarter about this subject letting me know why this won't work.

    Instead of the current "hybrid" design where both and electric and gasoline motor work to drive the car, let's build an electric car with batteries and electric motor, as efficient as we can, but then let's also build into the car a small, say 20 horsepower, gasoline engine. All this engine does is CHARGE BATTERIES.

    Because of this, the gas engine can be made to run very efficiently, at one speed with a more or less constant load. It could be made small and quiet and perhaps we could get 100 MPG or better from this "hybrid"

    Actually, this is the same design used in a modern diesel-electric locomotive train engine except for the batteries.

    Using this design, I'm thinking we should be able to up the gas mileage of preset-day cars substantially.

    So, that's my idea...will it work? I sure would like to know!
