Rejecting Nobel class papers
Posted on Monday, May 17, 2004 @ 21:38:30 UTC by vlad

Science Interesting: "Rejecting Nobel class articles and resisting Nobel class discoveries.

Abstract: I review and discuss instances in which 27 future Nobel Laureates encountered resistance on part of scientific community towards their discoveries and instances in which 36 future Nobel Laureates encountered resistance on part of scientific journal editors or referees to manuscripts that dealt with discoveries that on later date would assure them the Nobel Prize.

Although in some occasions the rejection of Nobel class papers could be justified, here I show that the danger that scientific journals disregard or delay important discoveries is real and it can be disastrous..."

A breakthrough in any field is always going to look like a crackpot idea when it first comes to light. If the number of crackpot ideas is any indication of a paradigm breaker in the area of energy from the vacuum, we should be pretty close.
The real job is sorting the correct crackpot out from all the other ones that don't work. For this function the scientific journals do have a filtering process, but its hard to discriminate the goofball ideas from the good ones. They tend on the surface to look almost exactly the same. Only the test of time , and verifiable results, make the difference between sitting in the chair at the ceremony in Stockholm, or sitting in the back of your garage.
