Electrostatic Spin Discovered at UC Riverside

Science UC Riverside Researchers' Discovery Of Electrostatic Spin Topples Century-old Theory

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- April 2, 2003 -- In a discovery that is likely to impact fields as diverse as atomic physics, chemistry and nanotechnology, researchers have identified a new physical phenomenon, electrostatic rotation, that, in the absence of friction, leads to spin. Because the electric force is one of the fundamental forces of nature, this leap forward in understanding may help reveal how the smallest building blocks in nature react to form solids, liquids and gases that constitute the material world around us.

Scientists Anders Wistrom and Armik Khachatourian of University of California, Riverside first observed the electrostatic rotation in static experiments that consisted of three metal spheres suspended by thin metal wires, and published their observations in Applied Physics Letters. When a DC voltage was applied to the spheres they began to rotate until the stiffness of the suspending wires prevented further rotation. The observed electrostatic rotation was not expected and could not be explained by available theory..."

At present, it appears that no one out there has an opinion or theory about this "discovery", so I'll give it a shot. I think the explanation for this phenomenon is actually quite simple with the application of logic, so I'm not expecting too much "new physics" to come out of this.

As we know, an isolated charged sphere will exhibit an absolutely uniform surface charge density (assuming perfect sphericity). However, under the influence of another nearby charged sphere, a local nonuniform surface charge density will be induced on each, due to the nonuniform higher electric field intensity between the nonequidistant facing portions of the spheres.

Since under the circumstances the surface charges cannot find uniform or symmetrical equilibrium density values, a continuous mutual redistribution of surface charge takes place, with electric field force equilibrium and minimum nonuniformity of surface charge density then being achieved through mutual rotation (as a means of establishing a form of charge distribution symmetry).

Of course, I could be wrong . . .

Hi All..

(Thanks for the Info Al.....)

Oh my, goodness me... Three metal sphere rotating, oh! how could that happen. I have been telling people this about with my Van degraff experiments for years. This electrostatic rotation is "one" of the principles of the Searl Effect technology.

Build yourselves a vandegraff an use it for a serious test bench machine.

Suspend the spheres from the roof or a frame over the VG and watch them rotate. Try putting weak magnets around the rims or one big mag center most in the spheres and they should attract toward their centres and maintain a stable orbit. (Whoa Searl Effect) One set of North poles and two sets of South poles on the two outer spheres. The two south polarity will repel each other and never interfere as they orbit around the North polarity. You may need to use non ferrous metal on the spheres, ie. stainless or aluminium, copper etc.

Try placing a fluro light tube over the VG and see how vortex plasma tornadoes form, as they do in nature. See how lighting strikes happen when the upper and lower vortex plasma fields meet in the middle to exchange charge down the centre of the vortex field. (Dual polarity vortices...)

I must have post the above info about a dozen time over the years ....

Nature is amazing if we just take the time to look and listen, and give up our brute force methods that bend nature to our belief.
