Climate change -- research suggests it is not a swindle
Posted on Thursday, April 03, 2008 @ 23:02:39 UTC by vlad

General New research has dealt a blow to the skeptics who argue that climate change is all due to cosmic rays rather than to man-made greenhouse gases. The new evidence shows no reliable connection between the cosmic ray intensity and cloud cover.

Lauded and criticised for offering a possible way out of the dangers of man made climate change, UK TV Channel 4's programme "The Great Global Warming Swindle", broadcast in 2007, suggested that global warming is due to a decrease in cosmic rays over the last hundred years.

This would cause a decrease in the production of low clouds allowing more heat from the sun to warm the Earth and cause global warming.

Research published today, Thursday 3 April, in the Institute of Physics' Environmental Research Letters shows how a team from Lancaster and Durham Universities sought a means to prove the correlation between the ionizing cosmic rays and the production of low cloud cover.

Previous research had shown a possible hint of such a correlation, using the results of the International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project, and this had been used to propose that global warming was all down to cosmic rays.

Shell officials outline routes to world's energy future (Score: 1)

WASHINGTON, DC, Apr. 2 -- The world's energy producers, consumers, and governments could either cooperate or "scramble" as they try to solve major energy and environment problems, two Royal Dutch Shell PLC executives said on Apr. 1.

The multinational oil company has developed new scenarios that reflect growing climate concerns and increased energy demand from emerging economics, they explained during a presentation at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. The new scenarios, called TANIA ("There Are No Ideal Answers"), run to 2050. They replace an outlook known as TINA ("There Is No Alternative") that Shell strategists introduced in the 1990s.

"You can still have good world economics with less carbon dioxide. Shell sees its future as an energy entrepreneur in this context," Chief Executive Jeroen van der Veer said...

What is very interesting as well is that the "theory" of  Dr Svensmark about cosmic rays was heard by the climate scientists and INVESTIGATED.  They did not sit there like 3 monkeys see no evil, hear no evil etc but took the time to see if there was anything in it.  This is much much more professional approach than many climate skeptics who just pontificate from their armchairs cherry picking data to suit their BELIEF NB BELIEF.

There was another issue investigated recently as well.  Again the climate scientists did a very in-depth study to see what was happening.  The charge from the deniers was that in the 70's climatologists were warning of an ice age and so they don't know what they are talking about.  The papers and journals of the 60's through to today were investigated and charge was found to be false.  There were some ice age warnings but there were 9 times as many warming warnings!  Again a sign of the cherry picking attitude of the deniers.  The chart showing the number of papers and which  were ice age, neutral or warming is a very telling one and in itself speaks volumes about what is happening!!!!!!!!

So not only is the evidence about GW increasing but the counter arguments are being investigated and found to be incorrect.  How much more evidence do you need?  I'm afraid I put the deniers in the same bucket as those who believe in God i.e. faith does not require evidence irrespective of how illogical that faith is.
