interview question - energy stored (Score: 1)

It's great you are going to try this Vlad. If it works out, it might help get more exposure for the site, and also serve as a model for how skeptics and enthusiasts can cooperate.

What I am really trying to get at is not the power capacity of the device (KW or KWH/day) but the cost of getting energy from the device. This is the question you need to answer if you are deciding to buy one or not, or if you are deciding who to market them to. The Q&A update on December 17 has
Q: How long will the chemicals in the Genesis gCell last?
A: The Genesis gCell provides a finite amount of energy. As a result, system life is proportional to the amount of energy each consumer uses. Presuming that the water system is serviced properly, the gCells in the Edison Device are projected to provide energy to an average home in the United States for up to twenty years. In a home where energy usage is twice that of the average, the gCells in the Edison device would last approximately ten years. Once depleted, gCells can be replaced by consumers for a fraction of the cost of an entire Edison Device.

It would be great if they would say instead "The gCell stores 80MWH. It would be stressful to draw this down at a rate more than 40 KWH/day. Depending on the proportion of energy consumed as H2 for heating and the portion consumed as electrical power, roughly half of this power is dissapated as waste heat, and the rest is available as usable power. Since the MSRP of a replacement gCell is $price. So, not making present-value adjustments, and counting only the cost of the replacement gCell, the Edison provides power at a price of roughly $price/80MWH."
