Bottomquark has an article:
A ZnMnTe crystal with added oxygen impurities has been synthesized by researchers that converts sun light to electrical energy with 56% efficiency in the labaratory. This is a huge improvement over current solar cells, which at best convert only about 33% of light into power. Even greater efficiencies are predicted using multiple junctions.
