A company says that it believes it is close to creating a process that could make nuclear waste a nearly limitless form of energy.
According to a series of news releases from Nuclear Solutions, Inc., waste products from nuclear reactions could be a potential source of energy.
The company says it is trying to, "create, obtain, develop and provide advanced technical solutions for the nuclear, environmental and defense industries that promote nuclear waste remediation; energy production; as well as nuclear safety, security, and control."
The proprietary technology, called, Gamma-Neutron Transmutation, reportedly transfers radioactive waste to a reaction vessel. High-energy photons (sometimes referred to as gamma rays, or X-rays) are then introduced. This process changes the atomic structure of the target materials so they can quickly become stable, non-radioactive products or radioactive products with an extremely short half-life.
