This is the latest (11 Apr, 03) IRI - Future Energy eNews. You can read the entire newsletter in our "Editorials & Newsletters" section. Here is the interesting table of contents:

1) Report Generates Negative Energy by offering the "wrong" answers for Energy Technologies for 2050. Another scandal of "shooting the messenger" by the DOE Fossil Energy Program through the Rand Corporation. (Update yourself with the attached USDOE Annual Energy Outlook 2003 - 2025 Chart, from www.eia.doe.gov with production, consumption, and import figures -- in color -- print "landscape" for bigger hardcopy image.)

2) Energy R&D Needs More Investment say the UK who have the laudable goal of a 60% reduction in CO2 by 2050. (Suggestion: look at the breakthrough energy research IRI has already accomplished, ready for development.)
3) A quantum Carnot "photon steam engine" extracts work and energy from a single heat bath (like the zero point energy vacuum for example). Hot atoms flow from a heat bath at temperature Tφ to an entropy sink at a lower temperature T1. The atoms exchange energy with photons in an optical cavity, which drive a piston. (Cites the Scully articles in #4 and #5. -- Become a quantum mechanic, top pay, unlimited travel and energy. - Ed.)
4) Heat from a Single Bath addresses the concerns about the Second Law of Thermodynamics and shows that the quantum world allows bending of the rules with coherence. (Dr. Scully)
5) The Quantum Afterburner would improve engine performance beyond that of the ideal Otto cycle without violating the laws of thermodynamics and power a laser. (Dr. Scully)
