A Question About Lasers

I usually work with the EM and gravity field theories, so involving myself in optics is new to me.
I recently became interested in FTL research and am conducting various experiments that require powerful lasers. There is a simple question about optics that I would like to pose to anyone who has an answer.
Is it possible to find a laser, or build one using enough power than can project a beam atleast 12 miles or so? If anyone has a viable answer, please respond or leave me a message.
