The End of the Blind Alley “Energy Commission” Calls for Energy Turnaround
Date: Saturday, February 05, 2005 @ 18:37:12 UTC Topic: General
The “Energy Commission“ – a highly-ranked expert committee made up of representatives from economics, government, labor unions, science, environmental organizations, and consumer councils – calls for a sustainable strategy for future energy supply in the USA in its report “The End of the Blind Alley“.
The primary objectives are, among other things, strict consumption standards for vehicles, mandatory limits for the production of greenhouse gases, and the promotion of renewable energies. The experts recommend concrete support and capital spending programs of a total amount of 36 billion dollars.
Last but not least, the committee requires more rigorous measures from the government in the realm of climate protection. It was proposed that starting in 2010, the USA should take part in worldwide CO2 trading, in order to sink the so-called greenhouse gas intensity (quantity of greenhouse gas per dollar of gross national product) by 2.4 percent per year.
