The Internet-based campaign, a project of the Alliance to Save Energy, rallies individuals throughout the U.S. to enhance national security and save the environment by saving oil. Among the various oil-saving options are keeping cars properly tuned, taking public transit, carpooling, and pledging to purchase fuel-efficient cars. Since the campaign began about a year ago, nearly 400,000 barrels of oil have been saved through the voluntary actions of those logging on to the web site. Alliance to Save Energy Deputy Policy Director and Patriots Energy Pledge Steering Committee member Kara Saul Rinaldi said, The Patriots Energy Pledge shows that Americans recognize the power of energy efficiency to reduce our oil dependence, protect the environment, and enhance our national security. In addition, the campaign demonstrates that ordinary Americans are taking action and can make a difference. The Patriots Energy Pledge was created by a volunteer group of energy experts as a way to reduce the U.S. national dependence on oil."

Ordinary Americans should get smarter and take even more action by asking their government to remove the secrecy order from possible hundreds of revolutionary energy inventions that accumulate dust in USPTO & DOE’s safe vaults while we kill each other and our beautiful planet for oil.

Standoff On Power Plants: Buyers, Sellers Nowhere Close: "Dozens of new power plants built in the U.S. by merchant energy companies now under financial distress are for sale, but don't expect to see any 'Sold' signs soon," Dow Jones Energy Service reported March 5. "Current bids are less than half the offering prices, energy bankers and others in the industry said. Potential buyers are holding out for a fire sale, but neither energy companies nor their banks are willing to sell for less than the debt associated with the plants -- even if that means banks end up owning some power plants, at least for a while."
