In any case, we are near the end of the carbon age in our energy economy, so CO2 emissions will cease to be an issue. I believe you misunderstand the role of water vapor. As vapor, it absorbs infrared. As droplets or ice crystals, as in clouds, it reflects not only infrared, but other light as well. So as vapor it has a warming effect, and as clouds it has a net cooling effect. However, our knowledge and modeling capabilities are not yet sophisticated enough to understand precisely how it all works out, as we really can't predict exactly how cloud cover will vary with vapor density and temperature. Any reasonable investigation into the field must consider solar variability as well. All the theories about CO2 being the main culprit implode on confronting the single fact that the Vikings were farming Greenland 1000 years ago, which would indicate a warmer climate than we have today. | Parent
