This is a regressive bill that, among other things, reduces public utility protection for consumers; leaves taxpayers responsible for up to half the construction costs of new nuclear reactors; provides $10 billion in subsidies for the already lucrative oil and natural gas industries; and encourages reckless mining and hazardous disposal of millions of gallons of underground water by the coal bed methane industry.
