Frederick David Tombe writes: Dear Vlad, I've just completed twenty five years of research into Maxwell's displacement current and I have finally come up with the explanation.

In textbooks, Maxwell's displacement current is usually justified in conjunction with linear polarization in the space between the plates of a capacitor, yet we know that it exists everywhere that electromagnetic radiation exists even when there is no evidence of linear polarization.

I traced the origins of displacement current to Maxwell's fifth equation which is the equation of simple harmonic motion. The key to the link between linear polarization on the one hand, and magnetization on the other hand, lies in the ninety degree phase shift that exists between displacement and velocity in simple harmonic motion.

The results can be found in two short papers,

(1) E = mc^2 and Maxwell's Fifth equation
(2) The Unification of Gravity and Magnetism.

These two papers, which I have enclosed as pdf attachments supersede the paper which I wrote last November entitled 'The Unification of Electricity and Magnetism'.

I would be most grateful if you could now stand down the paper 'The Unification of Electricity and Magnetism' in your downloads section and replace it with these two new articles.
