China claims success in testing fusion reactor
Posted on Thursday, September 28, 2006 @ 18:02:16 UTC by vlad

    Devices Associated Press/ TheGlobeandmail.com

BEIJING — China claimed to have carried out a successful first test Thursday on its experimental thermonuclear fusion reactor.

The officials Xinhua News Agency report gave no details about the nature of the test or the results, saying only it was carried out on a Tokamak fusion device in Hefei, the capital of eastern China's Anhui province...

This claim is as bad some of the "free energy" claims.  Its is a "success" because hot plasma was generated! Big wow. Where is the sustained generation of heat necessary to boil the water to drive the turbines. Since a nuclear reactor is nothing more than an overengineered kettle you could say the chinese have managed to plug it in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nuclear fusion is a non starter but a wonderful job for life for those involved due to the un questioning subsidy by governments.

If the UK government had invested the same amount of money on micro green generation has it has in fusion research then every home would be almost self sufficient and produce more power than all the planned power stations for the next 20 years. Unfortunately there would be a few unemployed physicists.

Here's a wee thing to try. Divide the cost (build+run+decommision) of a single nuclear (fission) power station by the number of homes it is intended to supply.  Compare that cost with the amount it would take to install micro wind turbines, solar panels and battery storage for a home to be self sufficient and what do you get ?  The very glaring impression that nuclear power has absolutely nothing to do with supplying cost efficient lower carbon power for the people.
