He will bankroll crusade for new energy sources
    By Ryan Parry, Us Correspondent

TYCOON Sir Richard Branson vowed to give £1.6billion to combat global warming yesterday.

The money, which will be invested over the next decade, will come from profits at his travel firms, such as Virgin Atlantic airline and Virgin Trains.

This will be ploughed into finding renewable, sustainable energy sources.

Virgin boss Branson warned: "We must rapidly wean ourselves off our dependence on coal and fossil fuels."
    ...

Speaking in New York, Branson said last night: "The world is spiraling into disaster. Airlines produce two per cent of the world's CO2.

"We'll direct any dividends and share proceeds into setting up a company to research clean fuels and alternative fuels for planes, cars, trains and lorries.

Apparently, members of the more productive (definitely not me) Free Energy "community" have approached Sir Richard Branson about investing in one or more of the F-E technologies less than two years away from self-running status, and then production for sale/lease, were funding available. Sir Richard, I heard, reacted quite angrily to the suggestion of such investment, having taken, it seems, the "it's nonsense!!" route. But if anyone could lose the tiny fraction of his net worth he'd be asked to invest (min. US$11 mill, max US$40 mill.), it would be him, along with Gates etc. And yet, Branson could make billions more on F-E, if he picks a valid device through appropriate NDA-based testing.

    Hal Ade.
