US in the dock over climate change wrangling
Posted on Thursday, December 08, 2005 @ 21:07:52 UTC by vlad

General 08.12.2005 - 09:59 CET | By Mark Beunderman

The US has come under heavy fire for renewed refusals to commit itself to binding reductions in greenhouse gas emissions targets.

At a major UN summit on climate change held in Montreal, which is entering a crucial stage, Washington has blocked a Canadian proposal for a two-year round of multilateral talks on a global long-term strategy to curb climate change.

According to media reports, the Americans fear the talks are meant to lead them into binding commitments to curb gas emissions causing global warming.

Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin fiercely criticised Washington’s obstructionism, stating, according to press reports, "To the reticent nations, including the United States, I say this: There is such a thing as a global conscience (…) And now is the time to listen to it."

Nothing will come out of the summit.  I now firmly believe that that the US' and China's insistance on business as usual for "economic" reasons will condemn us all to a changed world.  The lag in the system means that even when the sceptics can no longer ignore the facts nor the likes of US and China ignore the impact (bad) to their economies of global climate change it will be too late to reverse things. I think it's time to sell those beach front properties and buy something a little higher.........as the future beach front property!

Actually there's a slight mistake in what I've said. The sceptics already ignore the facts as is evident when you go to their websites.  There is an awful lot of cherry picked "evidence" as well as the ignored evidence.  A time will come when the evidence to be ignored is so overwhelming that to to ignore it is to publish a blank web page !
