In contrast, suppose you are inside a uniform distribution of source positive mass with a positive uniform density rho. In that case, the interior effective mass is M(r) = (4pi/3)rhor^3 There is the Newtonian limit theorem that the mass beyond the test particle's position r makes no net contribution. V = -(4pi/3)Grhor^3/r = -(4pi/3)Grhor^2 F/m = -dV/dr = +(8pi/3)Grhor i.e. you only now have 2 - signs because the r dependence is now in the numerator. This force is a damped harmonic oscillator of imaginary resonant frequency f, i.e. d^2r/dt^2 - (8pi/3)Grhor = 0 f^2 = -(8pi/3)Grho If, as logical consistency demands, you use the same sign conventions as for the case where you are outside a compact source, i.e. r > R = radius of the compact source. You can also see this by drawing the simple graphs of V and using the idea that the force is the negative gradient of the potential. You get a harmonic oscillator f^2 = +(8pi/3)Grho Note that you get the Newtonian equivalent of Alcubierre's zero g-force weightless warp drive AKA "geodesic glider" or "G-Engine" if you have a negative mass together with a positive mass e.g. a zero total mass "dipole". This was first noted by Hermann Bondi in Cornell lectures I attended over 40 years ago. It was written up by the late Robert Forward as "Negative Matter Propulsion". Bondi may have been at this Portugal meeting, but he is very old now and apparently has not kept up with the recent discoveries of the "concordance model" of "precision cosmology" starting in 1999 and really culminating ~ 2002. It was possible to question the chaotic inflation Big Bang prior to the discovery of Type Ia supernovae small anomalous frequency shifts (accelerating universe), but no longer. Given a negative mass-positive mass diple M = m - m = 0 The negative mass repels the positive mass, but the positive mass attracts the negative mass. Therefore, in Newtonian terms there is an acceleration of the center of mass of the dipole, which is not possible if all mass were positive and also not possible with electrical charges. Using Einstein's geometrodynamics this translates into what is essentially Alcubierre's warp drive. Note that the negative mass causes a universal blue shift whilst the positive mass causes a universal red shift. Therefore, a flying saucer with "acceleration field" (Paul Hill) "G-Engine" (George Trimble) exotic propellantless propulsion shows a "reverse Doppler shift" as reported by former NIDS science director Bruce Cornet and implicit in the NIDS papers by Eric Davis and Jacques Vallee (e.g. the "novel" "Fastwalker" about "Alintel").
