Hydrogen on Demand
Posted on Saturday, April 16, 2005 @ 23:07:28 UTC by vlad

Investors Jeane Manning writes: On cleanwatts.com website:
AEC owns a metallurgic formulation which separates hydrogen from water at low cost, requiring no electrical energy or external input, and without utilizing or producing any hazardous waste materials. AEC's process involves chemical reactions between a proprietary metal alloy mix and the liquid solution. These metals are plentiful, stable in cost and produce effective, highly purified hydrogen utilizing a catalytic process.

on Products page, excerpt:
In May 2004, AEC and Astris entered into a VAR agreement, whereby AEC is now a Value Added Reseller (VAR) for Astris' AFC Power Generator products. The companies believe that this Agreement is the optimal route for their relationship to follow, in that a VAR relationship allows AEC to utilize Astris' alkaline Fuel cell for demonstration sales purposes while permitting Astris access to AEC's substantial distribution and sales prospects.

This VAR arrangement allows AEC to demonstrate and make available a combined fuel cell or internal combustion engine power pack for sale to major corporate, industrial and energy utility customers, as well as demonstrations planned with U.S. Federal Government Energy and select Military authorities.

Breakthrough offers promise for hydrogen economy - 7th April 2005

Ice could be the answer to the problem of how to store hydrogen, a team of researchers has discovered.

The team found that when combined with organic metals, water creates a nano-space to stably hoard hydrogen at freezing point, the Korea Times reports.

Currently purified water does not contain the space to store hydrogen.

Lee Huen, head of the team at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, said that the discovery was a step on the way towards making hydrogen a more viable alternative energy source.

Hydrogen gas is usually stored at a 350 barometric pressure or liquidised under a temperature of up to minus 252 degrees Celsius. However these methods are not practical for everyday use.

It is hoped that the new method of storing hydrogen inside ice will become the industry standard for hydrogen storage in the future.

The finding will reportedly be featured in the next edition of science journal Nature. The team has already applied for international patents for the breakthrough.track

I've been keeping an eye on this for a year now and there has been no progress (as far as I can tell) for several months beyond the initial proof of concept. Given that production of hydrogen on demand from water is the key to this then IF it was viable it would be the holy grail to hydrogen powered vehicles. It would be worth billions and all other hydrogen production and storage work would be unnecessary.

So now that it's the 18th April does anyone know how the demonstration went?
